A full book review of "Twice in a Blue Moon" by Christina Lauren.

'Twice in a Blue Moon' is a second-chance love story about a boy, a girl, and a betrayal that changes the course of their lives forever.

While visiting London to celebrate her eighteenth birthday, small-town girl Tate Jones and even smaller-town boy Sam Brandis meet in the unlikeliest of circumstances only to fall swiftly and deeply in love. As the two share their hopes, dreams, and inner-most thoughts during clandestine nights in the hotel garden, Tate entrusts Sam with one of her biggest secrets - only to have that trust (and her heart) completely shattered a few days later.

Hurt, confused, and utterly heartbroken, Tate uses what happened to build the career she always dreamed of. Fourteen years later, Tate, a successful actress in her own right, takes on a leading role that will propel her even further into stardom. Arriving at set at a remote Californian farm, Tate is ready to prove herself once and for all - only to discover that the screenwriter is none other than Sam Brandis. For the next two months, Tate must give the performance of her lifetime, both on set and in real life. Grappling with her sudden reality, Tate must confront the painful memories that have haunted her for over a decade.

As the tension between them grows, and hate soon turns to forbidden passion, Tate must ask herself this: can she forgive Sam for the wrongs he made, if they were made for the right reasons?

'Twice in a Blue Moon' is a funny, engaging light-read that will not fail to delight.

While I enjoyed 'Twice in a Blue Moon' and read it in one sitting, I felt the story would have been much better had it been longer. The second half of the book felt rushed, with too little time spent on developing the relationship (and sexual tension) between Sam and Tate leading up to their romantic reunion. This was especially disappointing given how endearing, charming, and heart-felt their relationship was back when they had first met.

“ Can you believe me, though?” he asks quietly. “That the worst thing I ever did was for the best reason I ever had?”

I also did not know how to feel about Sam's reason for the betrayal. While I understand doing anything for those you love, he could have done so in a much better way. Having said that though, I do not know how open Tate would have been to this idea, especially given the nature of her relationship with her mother and grandmother. In the end though, I was delighted that they reconnected and wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

As a whole, 'Twice in a Blue Moon' was a sweet, funny novel about young-love, second-chances, and fate. While slightly unmemorable, I would definitely recommend this to lovers of rom-com, or anyone looking for a sweet light-read!
